The Midlands Family Business Awards is a not-for-profit venture and all proceeds from the 2010 Awards, over £7,000, were given to charities supporting young enterprise and/or young people. We are delighted to continue our support of The Children's Society and The Willow Foundation in 2011.

The Children's Society

The Children's Society delivers a wide-range of expert services, in direct response to local need, that helps to improve the lives of children wherever they might be, and with whatever challenge that they face.

Through various projects and initiatives, The Children’s Society helps children with disabilities, children that have runaway from home, children living in poverty and those who need positive role models and support to prevent them entering a downward spiral of decline. Their aim is to make childhood better for every child.

Proceeds from the Family Business Awards will support The Children’s Society’s Midlands-focussed work, including the National Mentoring Initiative pilot in Nottingham, which involves working with the child and parent to give them the extra help and support that they need. It also includes the STARS project, which helps local children whose parents misuse drugs or alcohol. The charity seeks to improve the life experiences and choices of these children; helping them to develop the strategies and skills that they need to cope; and ensure that they are safe and have a trusted adult that they can turn to.

The Willow Foundation

The Willow Foundation provides special days out for seriously ill 16-40 year olds in the UK.

Special days offer much needed time out from the stresses of living with a life-threatening condition. They offer the chance to feel normal and to spend quality time with family and friends doing something they will all enjoy, creating happy, precious memories.

Willow strives to create a unique and unforgettable day that is tailored to the needs and dreams of every beneficiary. He or she chooses exactly what they would like to do on their special day and Willow aims to meet and, wherever possible, exceed their expectations, making the day truly special and memorable.

To date, Willow has provided more than 5,500 special days for seriously ill 16-40 year olds.
