Gemport have certainly been busy...

GemPort is a family jewellery business that's no stranger to Awards. Since taking home Highly Commended in our very strong Manufacturing Excellence category in 2016, they have been busy with a string of prestigious Award nominations.

Being chosen as a finalist in the Jeweller Of The Year category under the West Midlands Region, at the English Wedding Awards, is testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the dedicated team at Gemport.

Co-Founder David Turner took home the Highly Commended Award for Networker of the Year at the 2017 Business Networking Awards and was joined by Joanne to collect their winners trophy in the Business to Consumer category of the Business of the Year at the same Awards ceremony.

Flying the flag for family businesses in the Midlands, Gemport won the Regional Family Business Of The Year 2017 awarded by The Federation of Small Businesses & WorldPay.

So, what is the secret to Gemport's success? We asked founders David and Joanne Turner...

"By keeping our overheads low as much as possible and by sourcing only the best suppliers and craftsmen, GemPort can offer a bespoke and unique service by going that extra mile, so savings at point of manufacture can be passed on to the client. The more we spend on precious metals with a supplier the greater the discount we can offer to our customers. GemPort are not a ‘bargain basement’ outlet but we are committed in offering value for money."

Casting their fine rings to order means they are handed to the customer brand new and in the correct size, meaning there are no unsightly alteration marks. Their fine jewellery has full Birmingham Assay Office Hallmarking, complete with the GemPorts hallmark. They give customers a choice of diamonds and precious stones before mounting them into their chosen ring so it really is a bespoke result.

An added option is a computer aided design service (CAD) which is invaluable in the design and subsequent manufacture of those more specific requirements.

Customer service is also and area where GemPort excel, as Joanne explains: "At GemPort Jewellery customers are allocated an individual appointment time, meaning that our clients are not kept waiting and that the consultation is not disturbed by passing trade. Our gated courtyard environment also means that customers can depart safely with security in mind before departure. Upon the purchase of wedding rings we will also service, clean and polish the accompanying engagement ring free of charge so that everything is matching and new for the ‘big day’."

We're looking forward to welcoming back GemPort Jewellery to the 2017 Midlands Family Business Awards - let's hope they save a space in the trophy cabinet!
