Herbert Baggaley Construction Limited, one of the Midlands' leading construction companies, has been announced as the Midlands Family Business of the Year in the region's only Awards initiative to recognise family businesses and their leaders.

Now in their second year, the Awards are run by The Wilson Organisation and are a not-for-profit venture, with all proceeds going to charities supporting young enterprise and young people - The Children's Society and The Willow Foundation.

Nottinghamshire-based Herbert Baggaley Construction Limited is a fourth generation family business founded 103 years ago. It was unveiled as the winner of the 2011 headline Award at a prestigious dinner at Birmingham's Town Hall on the 17th November. A further nine category winners and runners-up were announced on the night, in front of an audience of more than 300 guests.

Baggaley's Managing Director Ian Baggaley accepted the Award from Chris Taylor of Smith Cooper, headline sponsor of the 2011 Awards, and Charlotte Perkins, managing director of Wilsons.

Judges for the headline category were Chris Taylor, Mark Samworth of Leicestershire family business Samworth Brothers and Wilsons' Gary Cormack and Annabel Prow, who commented: "Thirty-two businesses entered the Family Business of the Year Award and it was an extremely hard-fought category, which specifically seeks to recognise established family businesses that can demonstrate success across their businesses.

"Herbert Baggaley Construction Limited was able to show sound financial measures and evidence of good governance, service excellence, innovative processes and a commitment to its community, along with exemplary family values and a clear vision for the future. Baggaley is a worthwhile winner of this year's headline Award and a leading light in the family business sector in the region."
