The Midlands Family Business Awards is a firmly independent initiative and each of the 10 award category panels is led by a senior family business figure, with support from industry influencers and our sponsors. We are exceptionally grateful to our judges, who provide so freely of their time, wisdom and insights throughout the judging process.
Our judging panel for 2015 included:
Stuart Garner, CEO, Norton Motorcycles
Norton Motorcycles, purchased in 2008 by Stuart Garner. He moved Norton to its current home at Donington Park in 2008 where they produce iconic, yet modern, motorcycles. In 2009 Stuart set the World Speed Record for a Rotary Powered Motorcycle (recording 173mph for a timed mile).
David Robinson, President, Speedo International
David joined Speedo in 1995 as a sales person within the UK team where 4 years later, he became the UK Country Manager. He was appointed General Manager of the Equipment and Footwear division in 2001 and following a successful tenure, became Senior Vice President, responsible for Global Product and Marketing, in 2005. David was appointed Co-President in 2006, before taking his current position as President.
Mark Samworth, Samworth Brothers
Mark is the 4th generation of the family to work in the family’s food business, Samworth Brothers, which now employs 8,000 people and turns over £750m. He joined the business in 1994 and is a Director of the Holdings and Executive Boards, chairing three of its operating subsidiaries. He also chairs the Family Trusts and is a Director of the Institute for Family Business.
Parveen Kumar Mehta, Operations Director, Minor Weir & Willis Ltd
Parveen joined the family business, Minor Weir & Willis Ltd in 1982 after graduating with a degree in Physics ( B.Sc. Hon) from Loughborough University. Starting as a produce trader he was promoted to Finance Director and then to Operations Director. Since Parveen joined the business in 1981, Minor Weir and Willis Ltd has grown from a single business in the UK turning over £2.5 million to a group of family owned European business with a turnover in excess of £207 Million.
Serena Humphrey, Managing Director, The F Word
Serena has spent the last 20 years relentlessly researching and studying businesses failure and what sets the successful ones apart. She has worked in and with over 150 companies in that time, including working with the best at Northern Foods Plc and NEXT Plc. In addition to running F Word, Serena is also a regular columnist for the Nottingham Business Post and a prolific finance blogger, writing for her own website as well as a number of other business sites.
David Evans, Manor Pharmacies
David Evans is Director and Responsible Person of Manor Pharmacies, Nottingham. He plays an active role in the pharmaceutical industry having held the position of Chief Executive and Superintendent Pharmacist of WR Evans for over 23 years.
